The Flow Detect notebook
What a thermal camera can and cannot show
Temperature patterns can guide an investigation when interpreted carefully.
It reads surfaces
A thermal camera detects surface-temperature differences. It does not provide an X-ray view of a pipe through a floor or wall.
Conditions matter
Heating use, sunlight, nearby appliances and construction materials can all influence the image. A useful pattern needs to be read with the property and system in mind.
A clue needs a question
The image might help interpret a heated route or affected area. Other checks are used where needed to test the suspected cause before access is proposed.
Put the information into context
This guide explains common investigation principles. Your property, the available access and the actual test findings determine the right next step. It is not a diagnosis of an unseen system.
