The Flow Detect notebook
Is the damp coming from plumbing?
Look at timing and context before choosing a repair.
Several causes can look alike
Condensation, rain penetration and plumbing leaks can all leave damp surfaces. The appearance of the mark alone is rarely enough to choose the correct repair.
Describe what changes
Note whether the patch varies with weather, heating or ordinary water use. Tell us about previous damp treatment and any nearby concealed pipe routes.
Use readings in context
Moisture readings describe conditions at a surface. Comparing locations and materials helps form a picture, but further checks are needed before attributing the result to a specific pipe.
Put the information into context
This guide explains common investigation principles. Your property, the available access and the actual test findings determine the right next step. It is not a diagnosis of an unseen system.
